The backlink is essentially the same thing as an inlink. It is a link on someone else’s site that leads to your own, and it’s extremely important to garner a large number of backlinks that are reputably obtained for several reasons. First, in SEO or search engine optimization, part of the algorithm for ranking your page on search engines is determined by the number and quality of backlinks to your site, providing they occur naturally and you have not purchased them. Reason 4 – Making Changes to Your Site on YOUR Schedule

I’ll tell you a secret about web designers: they like to design, not to maintain.

Design is fun. It’s creative. It’s self-expressive.

Maintenance is detail-oriented. It’s dull. It’s repetitive. But it’s also necessary.

If a web designer enjoys managing details, then carrying maintenance contracts is a good source of ongoing revenue and most web designers will offer to maintain your site for you. Regardless of what you spend on a webmaster though, the rub comes when you need something changed NOW. Right now. Not 2 days from now, not tomorrow, NOW. Scheduling, turnaround times, and your webmaster’s workload all come into play. Once the initial design is done, webma sters are usually not very interested in doing updates to their already-perfect creation.

You must think I hate web designers — I don’t, not at all! After all, technically, I AM a web designer. I do a limited number of site projects for clients who are in a hurry and who are happy to pay for me to do the work. But I don’t do maintenance for them. Any project I take on involves training package for them so that my clients do the maintenance.

It’s not that I don’t like maintenance; I too could make money as a webmaster. But I have a business of my own to run, just like you do. And I have found that my clients are happiest when they really own and run their own sites. (That’s also why my product includes 3 hours of one-on-one coaching time to get you up and running.)

In a previous installment of this series, we talked about making your website or blog a cash-producing machine. How are you going to do that if you can’t make updates quickly? With a site designed for easy maintenance, you can be in charge of those updates yourself and take care of them any time of the day or night. Even if you are not the one who creates your site, it still belongs to you. It’s your business at stake, so it pays to know how to operate it inside and out, even if you ultimately delegate some of the work to others. When it’s 7 pm on a Sunday night and you want to add something to your site before Monday morning, I can almost guarantee that neither your virtual assistant nor your web designer will be picking up the phone when you call them for help.

The Internet loves speed. Those are customers whizzing past your site. Get them to stop by and view your latest creations: products, writing, services, all described and made available on YOUR schedule, because you know how to wrangle your site yourself. I found out about the post when I got a comment on this site. That’s right new bloggers when you comment about a blog post and include the url often the site you mentioned will be notified. That is cool.

Ok, this post is very well written just like the entire site. If you have a home business you will want to hang around a bit to glean more insights. So, I am going to subscribe so I can stay updated. That is just the way blogging works. That’s why I love it.

This evening I was chatting with a friend and sent her to, what I thought, was a working opt-in box. Well, it worked but took us to the wrong THANK YOU PAGE  for the wrong free item. BOOMER ME.

I wanted to fire the secretary but realized that I was the secretary who made the mistake. Well, I am glad it happened. It was a reminder to go back and check the links and all your opt-ins to make sure they are working.

So, I decided to re-check the roles and capabilities for users on the WordPress.org platform. Here is a quick summary.

Working with training blog teams for work I have made some of them Editors and others Admin
I am including the list of levels in this email and their access level. There is a caution, however, about giving folks levels that allow them to see email addresses from folks who submit comments. That includes EDITOR AND ADMINISTRATOR LEVELS

• When you make someone a CONTRIBUTER 
•  they can:
  
  Upload files
• Write/edit/manage their own posts and save as a draft to await administrator approval. THEY CANNOT PUBLISH THEIR OWN POSTS
  This appears to be a good  level for folks who are new authors on your site. They can post directly to the site but your administrators must approve the drafts and publish. You can also control the timing of the posts according to your editorial calender.

When you make someone an AUTHOR they can:

Do all the things a CONTRIBUTOR AND AUTHOR can do PLUS they can moderate comments, manage categories, manage all links for blog roll, edit pages,edit other folks posts as well as read and edit private posts.
Did I hear someone out there say, “I did not know you could make posts private”. Well yes, you can, but that is another discussion. You can also make them password protected. Or use a cool plug in called EXCLUDE to omit that page from the search engines. I use strategies like this a lot to send folks to a page after a workshop. It is so cool to say “here is your special password.”

Finally,the ADMINISTRATOR,
They can do everything. But caution about making too many Chiefs. They also can change themes, mess with your code and change passwords.
