I have posted an insightful presentation on WordPress Security that was part of a presentation at a WordPress Conference.  Some of you, although you are long time bloggers, may still shy away from this critically needed stuff. DO NOT IGNORE IT!

I am also reviewing a four hour security seminar I took with Cathy Perkins. It must be done  in bit sized peices so it is good to stop, do then listen again.

I am not going to say it is easy and I would much rather be at Starbucks with a cup of Latte, at Barnes and Noble, or in the Virgin Islands. But I know what it feels like to have a blog hacked. So I am forcing myself to schedule this task and follow the steps so clearly explained in the Security Teleseminar. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to reward myself. If anyone else out there is doing the same thing and was in Cathy’s class please let me know.

Meanwhile, view the video below. You may not understand all of it, I am still learning also, but listen anyway. Write down your questions and post them after the video onthe WordPress TV site or here where someone smarter than me might answer.

But regardless if you do it your self or hire someone just secure that blog!

Don’t think I did not try without some heartburn.

I searched and found out that you could not upload unless you upgrade.  And so far, was only able to use the embed code from Viddler. But guess what, I found out you can embed if you just disable the visual editor on your profile page.

But if I am talk geekie let me know and I will do a quick video to show you. Meanwhile, here is the updated post.

I am currently playing around with  Viddler. Now, what I really like , so far, is my ability to create a video using my webcam directly to the Viddler site.

Now, this is really cool when you have a quick idea and want to record it right away. You can use this feature for your coaching clients, family or just to jumpstart your memory.

They also have a quick and easy way to embed video into a WordPress.com blog. That’s right you heard me correctly. Give it a try, click on a video, then where you see the option to embed click on WordPress.com and pop the code into your site.

Note that the site is constantly updating which is a good thing. It appears, only from my experiance, that they prefer .wmv formats. But I may have been doing something wrong. I contacted them to make a report because they state that they accept the following file formats.

avi .dv .mov .qt .mpg .mpg2 .mpeg2 .mpeg4 .mp4 .3gp .3g2 .asf .wmv .flv.

They are on Twitter, but did not start to follow yet. You might want to research that a bit and catch up with them.

Right now, the limit is 500 MB (no length limit) per video, and there is no limit to the total number of videos uploaded.

Meanwhile run on over to Rosies Boomer Review and you will see a video I just did.  But please be careful to do them when you aren’t too tired. The video quality has nothing to do with the site but everything to do with my camera and lighting.

Viddler is open to suggestions about features and ideas. So give them a try. I would love to see video tutorials on using their site to the max!

I am glad you asked. YES and NO
As you know I am a fan of WordPress.com sites for community groups and blog beginners. However, let’s not forget that “hosted” blog platform does not punch as much power as a “self-hosted solution like WordPress.org. But allow me to answer the question that I presented.

The NO Answer

YOU cannot upload audio and video without paying for an upgrade.

WordPress.com provides 3000mgs (3Ggigs) of space. That means you can upload pdf’s, powerpoints, documents, jpg, jpeg, png, gif’s (for images) without payment, absolutely free.

The YES answer

If you want to add 5 gigs to your existing 3mgs of space you need to purchase that space at $20 for the year.

If you want to purchase 15 gigs of space it will cost 50 dollars.

If you want to add 20 mgs gigs of space it will cost you 90 dollars.

Then, and only then, will you be able to upload the following files:

mp3, m4a, ogg, wav) and videos (avi, mp4, mpg, mov, wmv).

You can pay for your upgrade only by using PayPal.

In Additon

You can go to Youtube , for example, and copy the URL option. Then go to the Media button and add the url to the post. However, it will only give you a link that when you click will take you directly to the Youtube site away from your own site.

Here is a little trick

Go to your PROFILE page and click on the option to disable the visual editor. Then you can embed the code for the video to play directly on the site.

Go and try it.

Hope this helps. I enjoy my WordPress.com and WordPress.org blogs. I think that the upgrades are reasonable and a great option.  However, by the time you need  the additional functions many of you might be ready to transfer to  WordPress.org and find good hosts that will provide the space and bandwidth to maintain your blog’s needs.
