Blog Food-Feed Online News Articles to Your Hungry Blog

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series blog food

Online news articles from news sites are one of the best ways to get blog food for your blog. If you have a blog that focuses on opinions, politics or events you can do a search on that topic and glean the recent articles that appear. You can then make your own commentary and link to that particular site.

Also, while you are there sign up with the site. You can start with a very social media friendly site like CNN. As a of fact I just went over to their site and saw a fellow baby boomer blogger Inez Bracy.

She was under the section called “Friends Activity”. This is a section on CNN where using Facebook, you can  see what your friends are recommending and sharing on CNN. Inez was sharing an article post on CNN about the shorthand language used by teens when referring to drug and alcohol use.

So you can go and connect using your Facebook and allow CNN’s software  to grab your information. Now this entitles you to post a link to the video, blog, or make a comment on a blog post and get the link back to your site. There is also a section where you can grab the permalink on a particular blog post and reference it on your blog. That’s where YOUR blog is fed blog food from CNN.

Check out the pictures below showing the blog section of CNN and the place where you get the  permalink.

After you click on one of the blog posts you will see the permalink option. (Note: A permalink is a shortlink with the name and or date  of the post in the link. You use this link to post in your blog when referring to the post on the news site.)

using permalinks for referencing blog posts

After you click on the permalink the resulting url is below:

http://ricksanchez.blogs.cnn.com/2010/05/10/wanna-see-what-goes-on-behind-the-scenes-at-ricks-list/

Take that link and you could, for example write:

“Look at what goes on behind the scenes at Rick’s list” Highlight that entire statement and insert the link into the box.

So, get started now by looking for joining CNN and also search in the search engines for the news site for your state or local newspaper. Here are a few news sites to get you started.

NJ

The Seattle Times

Charlotte News

Go ahead just type in your State or major city into the search engine, i.e,  “Detroit news” and search around for a registration or sign up button. If the site is not social media savvy move on to the next one. Be sure to participate in the social bookmarking and social networking opportunities.

Was this helpful for you?

Trust me when I say that you will find an article related to your niche topic. Some sites will also have lots of blog posts. Try to find out how you can post your blog articles and link to the site. In addition you may have to go down to the bottom and look hard for it but there may be an option to post your videos!!!!!

Will this work for you?

Baby Boomers Blog Workout-Pump Up Your Posts With Controversy

This entry is part 1 of 1 in the series Blog Workout

Have you ever varied your blog workout? That’s right I said workout because blogging is a mental a physical exercise. But to build our blogging muscles in different places we sometimes must use different weights or types of exercise. So, since I have been trying to do more physical exercise with my body thought I would also apply it to my blogging. Does that make sense?

Here is the first of a series of post on blogging workouts. Today I want to share the value of adding controversial blog post. It is a post that can generate a lot of comments because the topic is something that most of your readers will have an opinion about.

To give you an example check out a post I read today about a pregnant woman who goes into a bar for a drink.  She is refused a drink by the bar attendant. Wow, the comments following the post are intense.

Clearly a baby boomer has something to say about this one. Try it, add some agree or disagree to your next blog post.

What do you think? Are you ready to workout?

Baby Boomer Blogging-Were You Born a Blogger Pt.2

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series baby boomer blogging

One of the real reasons I started this series was to capture other stories from baby boomer bloggers. But now I am really thinking about those things that motivated me to blog.

  • I wanted to become a professional blogger.
  • I wanted to earn passive income from blogging and other internet strategies.
  • I wanted to be able to add to my pension.
  • I wanted to be able to help others in need via blogging.
  • I wanted to be around more and not on the road speaking away from my mom since I am the only child and I am her” assisted living.”
  • I wanted to help my husband sell his artwork online

I STILL WANT THO KEEP THESE DREAMS SO I HAVE MADE THEM GOALS

Ray and I decided to take an eight week webinar training in the evenings. These were great date nights. We would eat dinner then sit at the dinner table around the lap top or downstairs around the desk top with speakers turned high as we listened to Jeannette Cates talk about starting a business online.

Now we were already primed by other internet gurus we like and admire. But this series by Cates promised to help us set up our own website! I admit I thought it was going to be a static site and I would learn more about Dreamweaver. But before we knew it we had jumped into deep water and was swimming with WordPress.org. Oh my, that was the program that looked so hard on the VTC training that I decided it was far easier to stick with Blogger.

But it was too late. We were assigned to create this WordPress.org site and host it. We did it. We are glad we did.

Later as, as time went on, we went deeper with WordPress.org with the guidence of my friend Cathy Perkins, the infamous WordPress Wizard.

Ray and I were not born bloggers. But as baby boomers we were determined to learn. We now have many blogs and still learning.

What about you? What is your blogging story? Please, Please share. You can post as a comment or just email the story to me using rhspeak(at)aol.com

If we get enough stories we will publish them in an ebook to share with others

A Quick Look ClickBank

This is probably the shortest post you have ever read on this site!

Baby Boomer Blogging-Were You Born a Blogger?

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series baby boomer blogging

If you are a baby boomer blogger reading this answer just one question. Were you born a blogger? I was not born a blogger. Sure if my mom had me tested back in the early fifties they may have detected a “blog” gene. But genetic research as not, to my knowledge, been able to find that DNA relationship. Yet, many of us are baby boomers and we blog? Why? How did it start?

Ok, here is my story. Once upon a time I had someone create a website for me. Why? Because as a speaker I went to enough workshops that said, “Create a website and put the url on your business card. Include articles, products and the kinds of topics you deal with and audiences you address. Oh, and don’t forget to put a current picture up and not one showing you 20 years ago.

Well, I did that, not once but twice. Both were wonderful sites done in Dreamweaver. That is one of the finest website development packages around but the learning curve is steep. So although I knew how to change pages, create pages there was so much more to learn. I could not fix my files and much more. I became increasingly frustrated.

Remember, I am a speaker, stand up, talk, engage, get creative tell jokes but not do blogging. That sounded lonely, tedious and too hard!

Then one day I attended an NSA, (National Speakers Asssociation) conference and was introduced to this thing called blogging. I purchased the CD and listened to it over and over again in my car.Although, I did not use the same blogging platform as the speaker, I decided to create my blog using Blogger.

How did I learn Blogger?
I took an online tutorial course with VTC. I would look at the video, stop and do they said, then start the vidoe again and continue. I had a blog up and running in no time! I still had my static site but I had a blog up on presentation skills. I taught my husband and he put one up on art. What was also cool was this same  video site had a lot of free  videos you could learn from before you started paying. They also had loads of videos we could not find in the stores. Video tutorials on just about anything so we signed up for a year so we could also dip our toes in stuff like Photoshop, etc.

I started looking at the tutorials on WordPress. But at that time the installing was oh so complex. I was not ready to deal with creating databases and other stuff you had to do if you did not have a host that made it simple.

Are you ready to share your story yet?

Next, How we traveled to WordPress.org during hot date nights.

What Are Your Freedoms This 4th of July?

First I want to thank each and every person who has put themselves in harms way to provide the many freedoms we have in this country. I also honor those who have lost their lives and hope and pray that their families find comfort.

This is a day that made me think of physical, mental and spiritual freedoms. I thought about my personal spiritual freedom during my personal quiet time this morning. I was thankful for the physical  freedom from pain that my mom had. I pray for those who are in emotional and physical pain for them to have some freedom from it.

If you have never felt the pain of physical, emotional or spiritual bondage you will never, ever appreciate how it feels to feel free. Sometimes it is just the freedom a pain pill brings. Other times it is the freedom from crying out of grief or lost of a loved one because someone cared enough to call and talk to you.

As a baby boomers we have a lot more of a history to reflect upon. They range from personal freedoms to job related freedoms. That’s right many of you are free of your jobs but not by choice. Yet, you have created an opportunities out of the pain of job loss. Every successful baby boomer internet marketer has a story to tell you that would probably encourage you.

Well, I could go on and on but must make a trip to my moms. So, I leave

Are their some freedoms you have but have thought to give thanks for? If yes, take a few minutes to appreciate them between the fireworks and fun.

Enjoy the day!
