Google Goodie #5 -Advertising to Baby Boomers PowerPoint

This entry is part [part not set] of 8 in the series Google Goodies

I just found a really cool PowerPoint on advertising to babyboomers.

I am so glad you asked. Here is what I did:

  • I went to Google search
  • I keyed in baby boomer:ppt (Note that I could have used pptx if I wanted to search for PowerPoint presentations in Microsoft 2007.)

Here is the formula: Phraseor word I want to see in PowerPoint slides :ppt or pptx

Why is this Google Goodie a Goodie?

Another great question. If I am plainning a presentation I can research the current Powerpoints created on a specific topic area.

So, give it a try. And you want to see and hear the PowerPoint presentation on Advertising to Baby Boomers.

Blog With Pictures

As Long As There Is Life-Hold On!

As Long As There Is Life-Hold On!

This picture reminds me of blogging. This weed is working itself around a steel gate. It has decided that it wants to live. How often do we see our blog dying because of lack of traffic or your decreasing interest or energy?

This weed is a powerful reminder to keep finding ways to hold on to the reason you started blogging. As long as that blog has life on the internet KEEP BLOGGING.

I am challenging myself to start using more of the pictures I am taking in my blogs. The question is why?

  • Pictures add color and excitement to your blogging. .
  • You can make comparisions or contrasts with the image and your blog posts
  • Pictures can motivate you and your reader.
  • It will motivate you to take more pictures.

Meanwhile, if you want to read a short tutorial on how to add pictures check out one of my sites I use for folks I am coaching when they are just getting started in blogging.  In this post I am using and the info works on also. If you want help with Blogger let me know.

You can read that short poston adding pictures to your blog from your computer right now.

Any comments?

A New Way to Promote Your Facebook Page

I found a really cool way to promote my Facebook page with a short link. No, I am not talking about Tinyurl, or Snipurl. Whereas both of them are excellent for shortening that long Facebook page url, I am using a WordPress plugin that keeps the name of my site in the url but sends you to my Facebook page.

See here is the link to my Facebook page on Blog Coaching for Baby Boomers

Now I place this in my Twitter tweet and it works wonders.

So, If you want to know how I did it, which is really simple. I am holding a short teleseminar session for fans of my Facebook page. All you have to do is become a fan. The session will only be 10 minutes on June 9 at 9:00 pm (EST). I will broadcast the conference line number to all the fans on tomorrow during the day on June 9, 2009. And don’t worry if you can’t be on the call the link to the mp3 will be, you already know, on the Facebook page.

I must give Kudos to Cathy, The WordPress Wizard for telling us about this during one of her FREE teleseminars one Wednesday.

PS Please note that you can change the link. For example I can change the link to say  And to show you that it is true I am changing it as soon as I finish the teleseminar. But since I already broadcasted the prior link use this link to connect and click on JOIN THIS FAN PAGE.  So use this link

Does Your Blog Make a Difference That Can Impact the World?

I am repeating my appeal for people to share their blog name and purpose. Why? Because when I read the list of 100 blogs who are making a difference and changing the world, I knew that it was only the tip of the iceberg. It was just the beginning.

You know how there are many singers but only a few get a role in a show, appear on Oprah or win American Idol? Well the same holds true with bloggers. There are many great bloggers with great messages but they go unrecognized except for those that hear their message.

It is a Big Blog World Out There!

In addition, there are some great writers, deep thinkers and just plain wise folks. Now, this holds true with baby boomers because of our knowledge and expertise history. Yet, there are many wise souls under the baby boomer age.

I am on a personal mission to empower others with information that can encourage them to do things they have never ever done before, like blogging. Now, for some that is a tall order. Many say they are too old, too slow or too fat.

I created blogging for boomers to provide folks with tips on blogging and the world of social media. I believe that you can and should be blogging. There are many people out here that can help you reach your blogging goals. Why should you allow technology to get in the way of your message?

Think Big, Think World Wide!

So, I just want to share your messages that you are sharing. I want you to tell others what your message is and how it goes beyond your territory , state or village and can make a difference to the world.

Will you do that for me and for others. Sure can be an encouragement, and who knows you just might motivate someone.

Can You Upload Audio and Video To a Blog?

Can you add audio/video to a blog?

I am glad you asked. YES and NO
As you know I am a fan of sites for community groups and blog beginners. However, let’s not forget that “hosted” blog platform does not punch as much power as a “self-hosted solution like But allow me to answer the question that I presented.

The NO Answer

YOU cannot upload audio and video without paying for an upgrade. provides 3000mgs (3Ggigs) of space. That means you can upload pdf’s, powerpoints, documents, jpg, jpeg, png, gif’s (for images) without payment, absolutely free.

The YES answer

If you want to add 5 gigs to your existing 3mgs of space you need to purchase that space at $20 for the year.

If you want to purchase 15 gigs of space it will cost 50 dollars.

If you want to add 20 mgs gigs of space it will cost you 90 dollars.

Then, and only then, will you be able to upload the following files:

mp3, m4a, ogg, wav) and videos (avi, mp4, mpg, mov, wmv).

You can pay for your upgrade only by using PayPal.

In Additon

You can go to Youtube , for example, and copy the URL option. Then go to the Media button and add the url to the post. However, it will only give you a link that when you click will take you directly to the Youtube site away from your own site.

Here is a little trick

Go to your PROFILE page and click on the option to disable the visual editor. Then you can embed the code for the video to play directly on the site.

Go and try it.

Hope this helps. I enjoy my and blogs. I think that the upgrades are reasonable and a great option.  However, by the time you need  the additional functions many of you might be ready to transfer to and find good hosts that will provide the space and bandwidth to maintain your blog’s needs.

3 Reasons To Join Blog Catalog

Blog Catalog is a blog directory that has matured to a lean and must-be-seen-blogging machine. There are 3 solid reasons why I encourage you to join this active blog directory.

1. Great link traffic back to your site.

There are loads of opportunities to exchange links with other bloggers, get comments to your sites.

2. Send broadcasts, initiate and participate in discussions.

Once you establish friendships , join groups, neighborhoods, plus more. You can send broadcasts for everyone in your friend groups to read.

3. Blog Catalog constantly works on improving the directory.

Just like a blog, it is never static. There are always attempts to improve and they listen to all their members.

Now, of course, there are more than 3 reasons and if you are a member of Blog Catalog please share your reasons. And if you are not a member and you have a blog I encourage you to join.

Caregiving Articles Needed!

Caregiver articles are needed for Articles for

This article directory attempts to focus on issues that baby boomers are interested in learning, leveraging or providing light hearted fun. Recently the category for Caregiving has been expanded to include: Resources, Tips, Family Support and Support Groups.

We strongly urge you to submit articles to the site including the name of your blog in the resource section. This is a great opportunity to enhance your business, services and help someone with your information and experience.

Please note that all the articles are reviewed manually by a very small staff so the approval time may be short or long depending on the number of articles submitted.

Take advantage of this opportunity.

Directories vs Search Engines for Your Blog

Remember that old commercial “Is it live or is it Memorex?” Well that’s what comes to mind when looking at the difference between submitting your site to a search engine vs directory.

Here is my current assessment and I welcome anyone to add to this or make corrections.

Search Engines

1. Search engines use computer programs called Robots, spiders and worms to automatically go from page to page through the web, reading content, and adding it to their databases. This speeds up the process of getting your site indexed.
2. You usually only have to tell a Search Engine the URL (address) of your site and it takes care of the rest.
3. The “spiders, robots or worms” search in different ways – and different parts of the Internet. The same search with different engines will yield different results.
4. Some index words in the title, URL, introductory paragraphs, or full-text of all documents on a web site or blog. Some use a combination of these words and phrases, all of which are entered into the search engine’s database. has a super, I mean super comprehensive listing of search engines. Click Here

Search engines also LOVE blogs. Imagnine a tank full of hungry fish. As soon as new food comes they go for it. Your blog site entries are fresh food for the search engines. Whereas, static web pages, that change very little and often, cause little stir with the search engines.

1. Directories are run by humans, live people, who review web sites and categorize them within their directories.

2. The staff consists of webmasters, directory staff and or volunteers. Sometimes staff are subject experts; sometimes not.

3. Review of you site require significant human effort to develop and maintain. Hence, it may take longer for your site to be indexed.

4. Some charge and some do not. For example, Yahoo charges a non-refundable fee of $299 if you site does not have adult content. If it is adult content it is $600. However, the payment of the fee does not assure you acceptance. But if accepted it gives you great placement.

Check out , Libarians Index, DMOZ, Medweb and Yahoo’s Directory

Yahoo and DMOZ are the two biggest directories on the web, but other important directories include local directories for your state, town, chamber of commerce, etc.

Hope this helps to make it clearer for many folks who want to know.
