I really never thought about sending someone a message on Pinterest. I always figured that if I made a comment on their boards they would see anything I had to say. Yet, as I think about it there may be times that you want your message to be private.
I mean you don’t want the whole Pinterest world to see your suggestion to another Pinner that they should use a better picture or that you thought their description needed improvement. Nor do you want everyone to see your attempt to negotiate a better price for those earrings they are selling on Etsy or Ebay.
Yes, there are Pinterest Boards that focus on Baby Boomers and their many interests. ! I have a listed 10 of them below. I know there are more. Many of the boards focus on baby boomer issues , hobbies plus more. But the board may not be named “baby boomer.” For example, I have a board just on African American Coins. Whereas, this Pinterest board is by a baby boomer it does not contain the words “baby boomer.”
Please, please if you have a board on Pinterest that focuses on an area of interest to baby boomers please share it so we can follow. Also, consider naming some of your boards with the key words “baby boomer.”
So, take a few minutes and visit boards below. Don’t worry you can still view them even if you do not have an account. But if you want to get started with and account let me know and I will send you an invite. I just need your email address. Enjoy!
Has social media replaced the water cooler? Some of you remember the live chats during the breaks in your work day? Many of us are working alone at our computers. When we have to ask questions we will check with an online friend or group. For example, I do Ebay, Amazon, Etsy and working on more. There are groups on Facebook, LinkedIn and others that offer support from others. For example I have a piece of “possible Jade sculpture” that I picked up at a yard sale I posted a picture of it in one of my groups for feedback before I listed it.
Moments before I created this post I saw a posting on Facebook from an online friend, who I have never met in person, has had quite an influence on my blogging over the years. Her name is Beverly Mahone. She is a baby boomer who has helped to unite other baby boomer women online. Recently she shared her new book with her online friends and even had a free download.
Now, you have to know that Beverly will not just promote her book but because she shares her skills she will provide information on HOW she promoted it because she is also a extraordinary journalist. She has created online communities for other women to share their expertise.
When I took a break from working this morning I saw an answer from another online couple to a question I had about Pinterest. This generous couple, Wesley N Laurlee saw one of my “pins” to an Ebay listing on Facebook and instant messaged me with some tips.
Now there are many other baby boomers that are “struttin” their stuff online. They are not just doing mindless gossip but sharing tips, expertise, help with caregiving plus more. We have come a long way baby boomers from that water cooler.
What are you doing online that you used to do around the water cooler?
Are you planning to look at blogs about the two Superbowl giants Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers this week? If yes, I thought you would enjoy looking at some popular blogs dedicated to the teams. So I have listed five (5) blogs for each team and the current post. Perhaps it may give you ideas about doing your own fan blog.
In addition, be sure to post comments to these sites. Not only does your opinion count but it is what we baby boomer bloggers have in abundance. Right? In addition, hit that like button on Facebook, Digg it, Tweet it and all the other good social bookmarket and social network things we can do. Enjoy the game this weekend.
Did you know that a Teddy Rooselvelt Marble sold on Ebay for $4,500?
I just saw a great blog established by Ebay for collectors and buyers of collections. It is called Ebay Collectors. The blog shares collector items that have sold as well as tips for purchasing an item to add to your collection.
I was more than impressed to see that Ebay designated a blog specific for this market group. I am also excited when I read about the prices that some of the collector items have fetched.
Now, note that the site does not have the comments currently open so I cannot suggest you go and post your insights or questions. Ebay has other great resources for answering your questions. In addition you can email them your questions. But the blog is a gold mine for baby boomer collectors who are on Ebay or want to purchase a collector item from Ebay.
Notice that the header is simple with just the logo and tabs for seven (7) pages. This makes navigation pretty easy for folks not used to blogs. Also, there is currently only one social bookmark for Digg and social network interfaces for Facebook and Twitter.
However, the very fact that those three options are available makes for powerful blogging. I am certain that it will expand as Ebay goes deeper and deeper into social media.
Note also that the Twitter feed is in the sidebar and tag cloud is extensive. If you think the comments should be open then shoot them an email. But as a blogger you also know how much work is involved in maintaining a blog. For now, you can always follow them on Twitter to ask questions.
This blog is still very new and it pays to keep an eye on how it progresses. I just love it when businesses expand and use the power of blogging. I also relish the appreciation for collector items that baby boomers know so much about.
If you are not currently on Ebay but want to get started here is an excellent starter resource. Of course there are a lot of books out there on Ebay but this particular author has 35 books to her credit. It is easy to read and chuck full of information.
This is a clear, concise and easy to understand blog post on the difference between Facebook pages and Facebook Groups.
I think because it is a table format it makes it easier to glean the information. I love tables and you can add tables to your blog with the right plug-in or if you know code stuff you can put one into your blog post.
